Vietnamese New Years

By jnguye21

Every vietnamese new years our church annually holds a festival for three days on the weekend.  This fair would have booths surrounding the church selling many miscellanious items.  Also, they would have games that you can play to win prizes.  The most prominent booths would be the places where you can gamble money.  Not what u quite think would be at a church would be hi and low tables and a vietnamese gambling game called Bau Cua which is like the english dice game Crown and Anchor.  However, i have heard that there will be none of those kind of booths this upcoming year as people underage are gambling there also, including me.  One of the other best part of this festival is the food.  There are some food that is made here that is usually only eaten during this time of the year.  The two snacks that i like the most at the fair is the vietnamese banana cake or banh choui and the american fries with nacho cheese.  In the middle of the fair stands a stage for all the entertainment.  Many different singers would be on the stage and also some bands.  However, the ones that i watch on stage would be the dancers.  Although it is almost impossible to get into the front row because of the many people crowding together.  Even as I walk through the fair, there would be a great amount of people there where you would have to squeeze through to get to the place i want to be at.
